Education

  • 1972-1976: Degree in Visual Arts at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts Sint-Lucas, Ghent

  • 1972-1973: Technical and Artistic design (Professional Course) at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts Sint-Lucas, Ghent

  • 1973-1974: Live Model Drawing (Professional Course) at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts Sint-Lucas, Ghent

  • 1976-1978: Postgraduate degree in Restoration of Works of Art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent.

  • 2012: Own title of expert in preventive conservation in museums and exhibitions at The University of Alcalá, Spain (36 credits)

Work Experience

  • 1979-1987: painting studio and Art Teacher at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts Sint-Lucas, Ghent

  • 1988-1994: head of an international (Agreement Belgium-Ecuador) conservation training program at the Father Bedon museum in Quito

  • ​1990-1995: Director of the De Vuyst – Endara Art Gallery in Quito.

  • 1995-until now  Painting Studio in Quito.

Statement

“Nature and art, they go their separate ways, it seems; yet all at once they find each other.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The main themes developed by Petrus De Vuyst through pictorial projects have a direct link with nature and man. One of them is "The Spirit of the Place" that in 2018 has been the subject of a solo exhibition in the Ecuadorian House of Culture in Quito, Ecuador.

He is currently working on a series of human and animal portraits, and new landscape paintings related to the “The Spirit of the Place” project.

1998: “Equality Square”, a mega-artistic event in the historical center of Quito, co-coordinated by F. Liefooghe, Belgian artist and with colaboration of the Faculty of Arts of the Central University of Quito.
